Domain controller is a server on a Microsoft Windows dedicated server hosting that allows a host to access to Windows domain resources. Active Directory  services is used to create domain controller.  It stores user account information, authenticates users and enforces security policy for  domains on the Windows dedicated servers.

The below tutorial will help you to create domain on your Windows dedicated server hosting.

Note :- The below tutorial is made keeping in mind that you have Windows 2003 operating system on your dedicated server.

Steps :—–

1. Click start  and then Run.

2. Then type DCPROM.

Note : DCPROMO command is used to open active directory on Windows dedicated servers.

3. You will see the Installation wizard. On the installation wizard click “Next”.

4. Click “Next” on the compatibility window and in the next window keep the default option of “Domain Controller for a new domain” selected.

5. Again click “Next” and then create “test.testdomain“. (Though you can keep the domain you have for your website on the Windows dedicated servers, however, this is done to keep the process simple).

6. Take the first part of the domain into consideration for now and it should be the default selection, as the NetBIOS name of the domain.

7.  Then Active directory installation window will open and you should select Database and Log folders. Once again, I will keep the selection as the same, however, it can be changed if you would like to use the disk space of another Windows dedicated server hosting.

8.  After you have done this, select Install and configure the DNS server on this computer and set this computer to use this DNS server as it preferred DNS server and then click “Next”.

9. Permission screen will appear and you should keep the default of “Permissions compatible only with Windows 2000 or Windows Server 2003 operating systems”.  Again, click “Next” and proceed.

10. The restore mode password is the single password that all administrators hope to never use, however, they should also never forget it because this is the single password that might save a failed server. You should keep it easy for you and difficult for others.

11. Now, click “Next” so that the process starts.  Wait for some time as this will take time. Keep the Windows 2003 CD with you as you might be asked for it. If your local computer has Dynamic IP then you need to change it.

12. To change the IP address, Right click on Network places >>> properties and then select Local area Network . After this select Properties and then choose Internet protocol TCP/ IP.

13. Click on Use following IP address and then write static IP address.  Once you have followed the above steps, it is time to reboot your Windows dedicated server hosting and the domain controller will be ready.

Now, if you wish to add your clients to the Domain controller, you can follow the steps given below :

1) Right click my Computer and then go to Properties.

2) Select Computer name>>>Click on the change icon.

3) By default your client is on Workgroup.

4) Select Domain and type the Domain name which you have created on your Windows dedicated web hosting.

5) Now you should reboot Windows Dedicated Server.
